This past weekend, I had the opportunity of attending the DCI Drum Major Leadership Summit in Indianapolis, Indiana. These three days were packed with numerous presentations, discussions, and activities designed to build our leadership skills.
I joined my fellow Drum Majors in learning about various topics ranging from establishing effective lines of communication within our corps, to preparing ourselves for the mental, physical, and emotional toll we may face throughout the course of the season. The presentations were created by former and current members of the DCI organization/community, and they were discussed in small breakout groups. This allowed for us to share our perspectives and ideas with each other on numerous subjects, an opportunity which has not always been available to the Drum Majors of the past. This collaborative learning environment is amazing since new and returning leaders can interact with one another, allowing us to create a support system which will last throughout the 2018 season.
All in all, the Leadership Summit was an exceptionally well-organized event which has created the foundation for our success. I look forward to building upon this foundation during my fifth and final year with Incognito Drum and Bugle Corps!
